Saheed Sporting Veterans XI beat Odisha Sports Journalists’ Association (OSJA) XI in the Friendship Cup Cricket Match, which was organised by premier cricket club, Saheed Sporting in the memory of its member, Siddharth Das (Nanu bhai) at Saheed Sporting Ground here today.
The well-contested match was inaugurated by hockey Olympian and Rajya Sabha Member Dilip Tirkey in the presence of former India Test cricketer Debasis Mohanty, former Ranji player Gurjeet Singh Chouhan, local corporator Saswati Mishra and Saheed Sporting Club secretary Pankaj Patnaik.
Former India women football team captain Sradhanjali Samantaray and former Odisha cricketers Rashmi Ranjan Parida and P Jayachandra handed over the trophy and mementos at the presentation ceremony. Young cricket commentators Kumar Avishek and Chiranjib Pati were felicitated on the occasion.
Brief score: OSJA XI 136/8 in 20 overs (Abdul Aziz 36, Faizal Ali 30, Dipti Samal 22, Samir Rout 17, Sukesh Behera 17; ) lost to Saheed Sporting Veterans XI 139/5 in 19.5 overs (Bandan Mohanty 34, C P Sharma 27, Saroj Barik 22 n.o; Abdul Aziz 3 wkts, Jagadiswar Das 2 wkts) by 5 wkts.
Individual Awards: Man of the match: Saroj Barik (Saheed Sporting); Best batsman: Abdul Aziz (OSJA); Best bowler: Deepak Mohapatra (Saheed Sporting); Best fielder: Sukesh Behera (OSJA).
